Annie Crawley PADI MSDT Instructor

Annie Crawley, aka Ocean Annie, believes imagination is not child's play, but is that of the visionary. Her company, Dive Into Your Imagination, creates illustrated books and programs to entertain, educate and awe people about life within our ocean. As a keynote speaker she creates dynamic multi-media presentations to take audiences on a thrilling journey discovering our world ocean while helping them understand it’s importance as our life source and how we need care for it. She launched the Our Ocean And You campaign reaching tens of thousands of people in our community to raise awareness about plastic pollution and simultaneously created a Annie Crawley’s Dive Team for kids/teens in the PNW. Teaching scuba diving and ocean conservation locally and on trips around the world. The My Underwater Backyard project started as a storytelling project for our Dive Team. As a resident of Edmonds, she realized everyone loves our beach, yet few know what lies below the surface of the water. She believes strongly in the power of giving a voice to the next generation and creates programs to build self confidence, self esteem, and life skills focusing on our ocean. In 2010 she was recognized and inducted into the Women Divers Hall of Fame for her international work as a photographer and filmmaker. Her stories are vast as she’s lived around the world from Australia, New Zealand, and Indonesia to Belize, Galapagos, and Papua New Guinea. She sold her car years ago to purchase her first underwater camera systems. She holds a Master of Communications from the University of Washington and teaches the art of photography, video, and storytelling. She encourages everyone to speak up for the ocean because without us the ocean has no voice.

Favorite park species: Annie is a behaviorist. It’s hard for her to choose one! She loves the eelgrass beds, the lingcods, the kelp crabs when they grab and feed on jellies, the gardens of plumose sea anemones, and of course all the divers and kids/teens who love our beach and my underwater backyard!

PADI Courses I teach: Edmonds Underwater Park, Scientific Diver, Navigation, … there’s 25 plus plus.

Favorite Edmonds Underwater Park memory: The first dive she took with her Dive Team using our cameras in the park. Watching our divers explore their creativity and capture their experience has brought her pure joy and just love.

Dream career: Living the dream!

I speak up for the ocean because it’s our life source. Without a healthy ocean, we are not healthy. There are many myths about the sea. As an underwater explorer and storyteller, my mission is to share my vision and inspire others to speak up.
